“Hey, man, what a cool t-shirt,” says a surf bum on
Waikiki beach. I’m walking around in the “lopapeysa”
t-shirt that Bad Taste put out on the 50th anniversary of the
republic. Isn’t it time to make some more? [A lopapeysa
is a heavy knitted Icelandic sweater.]

Bad Taste night in New York. Bless, Ham, Risaedlan and Jón
Gnarr at Downtown Beirut. Came halfway around the world to play
at a place half the size of Duus-hús, I think to myself
as our gear is brought into the place. The pool table is moved
to make a “stage.” That night guests show up: Árni
Matt and Hallgrímur Thorsteinsson.

The first kid stops me on the street to sing “The Fart Song”
for me.

On the way to Höfn we stop in Selfoss to buy smoke bombs
(probably from Einar Bárdason). Unun gets set up in Höfn
and puts the smoke bombs on each side of the stage. At the beginning
of “Lög unga fólksins” the bombs are supposed
to explode with a big bang and smoke. When the time comes, only
one does. Just barely.
05 1994
Unun records “æ”. Three shy long-haired guys
pop into Stúdíó Gny´r to give Thór
Eldon a cassette. Turns out to be the band Sigur Rós. They
get a chance to be on the compilation “Fifty Years of Bad
Taste.”

My back-pocket company, Erdanúmúsík, puts
out the tape “Snarl 2” with 2 Sugarcubes songs. This
is mentioned in a Rolling Stone interview and the letters pour
in. Among them one from Kim Fowley who wants a tape.

Erdanúmúsík mail order combines with Bad
Taste to form Bad Taste mail order.
08 2003
Bad Taste mail order turns a record profit. The letters keep pouring
in, including this one from Japan: “It mails for the first
time. I am a Japanese. It lives in Japan. I am whether to be able
to buy goods. I am
sorry to be poor English. I am waiting for a reply.”
09 1986
Get a tape from France from Thór Eldon with some Sugarcubes
songs. Good stuff, I think, but sort of strange.

Hit the bottom on Bless’ North American tour in Cleveland,
Ohio. Play an amazing show at a big place in front of a couple
who got free tickets from a radio show. They clap for an encore. |
