remember Einar Örn stuffing his socks into a soda bottle.
The bottle was found in the corner of the Sugarcubes’ rehearsal
space, and the Hard Rock Café turned it down when the Sugarcubes
offered them some of their treasures.

remember that Björk means Betula.
remember the photo that Bibbi “Curver” sent us when
the record Núll & Nix came out. There was a young boy in
a flower dress holding a doll in his hand. Then I knew that Bad Taste
had become a mom.

remember when the Danish poet and master of world literature
Poul Borum came to Iceland; we invited him to a Bootlegs show. Bootlegs
were the bearers of “speed metal” in Iceland’s music
life, and no one had played as fast as them on an Icelandic stage.
When Bragi and I asked the sixty-year-old Shakespeare translator whether
they weren’t incredible, he answered: “They are not fast
enough ...”

remember Thór dressed up as a Finnish motorcycle dude.
remember after a show at the Roxy in New York the singer of the
Psycheadelic Furs making a fuss because he didn’t get to sit
with Sinead O’Connor and myself.
don’t remember too much of the limosine trip from New York
to Bearsville. But I’ve seen a picture of Einar Örn and
myself in the back seat. And always when I see the picture, it seems
like I remember as well the driver showing us his handgun.
remember the vegetarians in Miracle Legion showing a timid respect
for the meateating Sugarcubes.
remember when the cat furs arrived from Mooselake ...
remember that Johnny Triumph was a spirit of the air who set
up shop inside me and won incredible victories on the musical front.
And I’ll never forget how fond he was of those Sugarcubes kids.
And when he met them once at a hotel bar he told them that he really
believed that they’d go far if they stayed true to themselves
and stuck to it - or was it Chubby Checker who said that? |
